Ditch the typical sightseeing spots and get a real sense of what it’s like to live in the beach town of Rimini. Whether you’re a party lover, a beach enthusiast, or a history buff, this city has something for everyone. Once you’ve checked off the must-sees and eaten your fair share of pizza and pasta, it’s time to dig a little deeper. We’ve handpicked three hidden gems that capture the true essence of Rimini. The kind of places locals love but visitors often miss. Follow this anti-tourist guide to experience the real Rimini Before we dive in, let’s answer some of the most important questions about traveling to Rimini so you can make the most of your visit.
How many days should I save to visit Rimini?
Tricky question! You could easily spend weeks exploring all the nearby beaches, clubs, and bars that Rimini has to offer — just like in many other Mediterranean beach cities. However, if you’re backpacking or Interrailing, you might have limited travel time. Then, three to four days is enough to cover all the must-see spots and most of Rimini’s anti-tourist gems. Of course, feel free to add a few extra days for lazy hours on the beach and wild nights in the nearby clubs.
I recommend staying at Sunflower Hostel. It’s perfectly located, just 200 meters from the beach, and it’s the coolest party hostels around (I’m not even kidding). Plus, they organize the best pub crawl in town.
Now, let’s move on to our three handpicked anti-tourist spots in Rimini!
Travel trough time in the “anti-tourist” Malatesta Temple of Rimini
Although one might think they’ve seen enough churches in Italy to last a lifetime, I still find myself amazed all the time. The sheer artistry that has survived through the centuries never fails to move me and this cathedral was no exception. It may be unfinished, but its beauty shines far beyond that. It’s easy to see that countless hands contributed to its creation. Visitors can’t help but admire the fascinating blend of medieval styles and Renaissance architecture.
The beloved Borgo San Giuliano district
This district of Rimini is loved by both locals and tourists alike. It’s filled with charming little shops, traditional restaurants, cozy cafés, and plenty of wineries. It’s a great place for visitors to immerse themselves in the everyday life of Rimini’s residents and discover the incredible flavors of Italian cuisine.
You can start exploring this area with no plan at all. Just wander around and take it all in. Before long, you’ll find yourself amazed by the picturesque murals and colorful houses. If someone had told me earlier that this district was once known for poverty, crime, and prostitution, I never would have believed it.
One of the highlights here is the Festa del Borgo San Giuliano, which takes place every two years on the first weekend of September and attracts visitors from all over Europe. The tradition began in 1979, and since then, Borgo San Giuliano has steadily transformed into one of Rimini’s most beloved neighborhoods.
Wander around the beachfront
Once a beachfront like any other, Rimini has made great efforts to create new green spaces near the water. Today, you can easily walk or cycle along the seafront without any traffic disturbing you. But that’s not all: along the way, you’ll find plenty of open-air gyms and even smart working stations.
Rimini places a strong focus on sustainability and innovation, and it really shows. Did you know that Rimini is considered one of the greenest and most relaxed cities in Italy?
