Ajmo na kafu – Lets get coffee
Belgrade has a strong and vibrant coffee culture that should not be underestimated. Young and old alike enjoy their caffeine fix in social settings around every corner and at any time of day. So make sure to visit as many cafés during your trip as possible. But don’t forget: the food scene is just as vibrant and amazing.
Bagel Bejgl for a quick breakfast or lunch
Location: Kneza Danila 39, Beograd, Serbia
Opening hours: Monday – Saturday from 8am – 4pm

Bagels are something I don’t have too often, and whenever I buy one again, I just ask myself why. The ones from this shop are especially good. It’s a cheap option compared to a fancy breakfast or brunch, but they’re just as delicious. They also work well as a quick lunch. Most bagels with spreads and toppings are between €2 and €4. However, they have a great deal that lets you choose a bagel of your choice and pair it with a coffee for roughly €4.50. They also offer a few sweet options, which I especially liked, and they work great as a dessert. Besides that, they also sell freshly made smoothies and juices.
Authentic and traditional cuisine – Stara konoba
Location: Ustanička 61, Beograd 11000, Serbia
Opening hours: Monday – Saturday from 7am – 11pm and Sunday from 10am – 10:30pm
I couldn’t publish this guide without including a typical Serbian restaurant, which is why I looked for the best and stumbled across this authentic and rustic place. Indulge in all the delicious and exciting dishes Serbia has to offer. It’s heavily meat-based, so I don’t recommend going there as a vegetarian or vegan. But if you do eat meat, you’re in for a treat at this hidden gem. As soon as you enter, you’ll be welcomed with warm hospitality.
Vegan cheap eats take-away from Vege House Belgrade
Location: Jurija Gagarina 151 lokal 80, prvi sprat, Beograd, Serbia
Opening hours: Every day from 11am – 7pm
On the other hand, I couldn’t bring myself to not include a vegan/vegetarian alternative either, because as I mentioned before, Serbian cuisine is quite meat-based. This place definitely exceeds your expectations. It might be a bit tricky to find (located on the first floor of a small shopping mall at the end of an abandoned corridor), but once you’ve made it, you’re ready for the best vegan ćevapčići in my opinion, as well as other fast-food dishes. Many people online also emphasized how good the Indian curries are. Keep in mind that it’s only a takeaway place, but that’s certainly no problem, as there are many places nearby to sit down. Plus, you can save even more money on drinks by grabbing them beforehand at a supermarket.
Thyme – StreetCuisine & Cocktails
Location: Rajićeva 12, Beograd 11000, Serbia
Opening hours: Every day from 12pm – 12am (kitchen closes at 10:45pm)
The reviews on Google are not lying! It’s really that good and they deserve the hype. It’s modern yet cosy and the food combines all-time favourites from around the world with a little creative twist. And as the name suggests, I’d always come back for their great cocktails. They have three more locations in Belgrade and all of them are worth checking out. One of them is completely dedicated to Indian street food, and the other two serve breakfast as well.
Gluten-free Cheap Eats from GlutenNo Belgrade
Location: Jurija Gagarina 14 E, Beograd 11070, Serbia
Opening hours: Monday – Friday from 9am – 6pm and Saturday from 9am – 4pm
Last but not least, may I present a great gluten-free bakery in the heart of Belgrade. They not only sell bread and pastries, but also pizza and sandwiches with their homemade gluten-free dough. You can even swap the cheese for a lactose-free alternative. Thus, it’s the perfect spot for everyone with Celiac disease. For dessert, I highly recommend their dumplings filled with cherries or plums. The best part is, you can even order the food to your place (ArkaBarka Floating Hostel is the best Hostel in town by the way) if you want to relax after a long night out.
