Anti-tourist vibes at Pizzeria Sette Bello Frankfurt
Location: Niddastraße 82, 60329 Frankfurt am Main, Germany
Opening hours: Monday – Thursday from 11:30am – 10pm / Friday from 11:30am – 11pm / Saturday from 4pm – 11pm
You can never really go wrong with pizza, right? But this one is especially good. It feels like you’re in Naples rather than Frankfurt. And I don’t just mean the food. Of course, it’s amazing, but the real highlight is the inviting atmosphere and the social vibes.
The dough is thin, with beautifully risen, fluffy edges. It’s easy to tell they’ve invested in a high-quality pizza oven. For less than €10, you can get a whole pizza with fresh toppings, and I promise it’ll keep you full for a long time. A Margherita pizza is even just €7.
You could also go for their pasta, which looked really good as well, though I haven’t tried it myself. In summer, it’s lovely to sit outside on their little terrace. Many locals gather there to enjoy warm evenings, sipping wine or beer late into the night.
Quick and easy meals from Rooster fried chicken
Location: several location / closest one to the Five Elements Hostel -> Moselstraße 8, 60329 Frankfurt am Main, Germany
Opening hours: Sunday – Thursday from 11am – 1am and Friday – Saturday from 11am – 2am
For me, this is the boujee version of KFC. It might seem similar at first, but you really can’t compare the taste and quality. Roosters is definitely way ahead, in my opinion.
They offer plenty of meal boxes, some for less than €10, which include a main, a snack, and a drink. It’s a great deal and helps you save quite a bit compared to ordering everything separately.
Their larger boxes with more than 30 pieces are also perfect for sharing, whether with old friends or new ones you’ve just made.
Authentic cheap eats sushi from SuperKato Frankfurt
Location: Kornmarkt 3, 60311 Frankfurt am Main, Germany
Opening hours: Monday – Saturday from 10am – 6:30pm
It’s a beloved, small, independent Japanese convenience store, and locals love grabbing their lunch here between work and errands. They sell incredibly affordable sushi made fresh on the spot. Six generous maki pieces cost less than €3 (even the ones with fish or meat)! Other than that, they also offer nigiri and uramaki.
You can enjoy your food right there while standing, but if the weather’s nice, I’d recommend taking it to a nearby park instead. That way, you can save even more money by bringing your own drink. Eating inside, though, lets you blend in with the locals — so it’s really up to you.
Besides sushi, they also sell a variety of pre-packed Japanese snacks and you could browse around the store discovering your new favorite treat.
Elevated fast-food from Goldies
Location: 2 locations / closest one to the Five Elements Hostel -> Kaiserstraße 56, 60329 Frankfurt am Main, Germany
Opening hours: Monday – Thursday from 11am – 11pm / Friday – Saturday from 11am – 2am / Sunday from 11am – 10pm
This burger chain has become increasingly popular in Germany. Originating in Berlin, their goal was to elevate fast food and making it high-quality while keeping it authentic. And they sure did. They’re known for their immaculate smash burgers and also offer vegan versions.
Although it’s a chain, don’t underestimate them. They’re on a whole different level than McDonald’s, Burger King, or similar brands that come to mind. Make sure to order the cheese sauce dip and enjoy it with both your burger and fries.
By the way, I loved their fries in particular. They’re super thin and incredibly crispy.
A German classic: Mehlwassersalz
Location: Domstraße 10, 60311 Frankfurt am Main, Germany
Opening hours: Tuesday – Friday from 10am – 6pm and Saturday – Sunday from 9am -5pm
Last but not least, something you simply can’t miss while in Germany: a real bakery. This might be the “modern” version of one, but everyone admires it for its sourdough bread.
In fact, Germans go to the bakery at all times of the day. In the morning to pick up bread rolls and fresh loaves or to grab a quick snack on the go, in the afternoon for Kaffee & Kuchen (coffee and cake), which I highly recommend, and again in the evening for a Brotzeit. That’s a typical German dinner consisting of good, freshly baked bread and various toppings.
Mehlwassersalz offers all of this and more — pairing the food with great coffee, fresh juices, homemade lemonades, and even wine.
And the sweet treats are to die for: they have all the classics, plus creative new options like cruffins with pistachio filling.
