Famous Cheap Eats at Chez Thérésa
Location: 28 Rue Droite, 06300 Nice, France
Opening hours: Wednesday – Sunday from 9:30am – 3pm
This cute little spot is famous for a local specialty called socca which is a light, crispy chickpea pancake that everyone visiting the south of France should try. It’s also suitable for almost everyone, as it’s naturally vegan, gluten-free, and lactose-free! Though, make sure to speak with the staff if you have any specific dietary concerns. The highlight of the venue is its wood-fired oven from 1867, which gives the socca its signature flavor.
You can also try other local favorites like pissaladière, pan bagnat, trouchia, or tourte de blettes. (Don’t worry, I had to ask what these were too!) These are all traditional dishes from Nice, and I honestly recommend coming back each day to try something new. If you’d rather play it safe, you can always grab a slice of pizza. I love this place for its authentic atmosphere and it’s a great spot to blend in with the locals. :)
Must visit stop at Chez Pipo
Location: 13 Rue Bavastro, 06300 Nice, France
Opening hours: Wednesday – Sunday from 12:30am – 2:30pm and 5:30pm – 10:00pm
I’m convinced there’s no other restaurant in Nice quite like this one. Although they serve socca here too, the atmosphere is something truly special: rustic, full of history, and rich in authenticity. The place has beautifully preserved its simple charm over the years. A socca costs €3.80, and while you might find it slightly cheaper elsewhere, the small extra cost is absolutely worth it. Not just for the flavor, but for the experience. Here, you can sit back, relax, and enjoy your socca with a cold beer or a glass of wine.
A true classic for a fancy night our is La Cave du Fromager
Location: 29 Rue Benoît Bunico, 06000 Nice, France
Opening hours: Every day (except Thursday) from 7pm – 12:30am
What’s a trip to France without indulging in its incredible cheese? Exactly, a missed opportunity. To make sure you don’t make that mistake, we’re guiding you straight here. This charming, refined restaurant serves classic French dishes, organic wines, and plenty of cheese specialties. In addition to that, the location couldn’t be better: tucked right in the middle of Nice’s old town, in an intimate cellar that provides the perfect atmosphere for a cozy night out. I went for the fondue, and I’m still dreaming about it to this day. The quality is outstanding and even the bread (which isn’t even the star of the show) is homemade.
Just a couple of tips: the restaurant only accepts cash, and it’s best to reserve a table in advance to avoid any disappointment. We’ve included this spot in our “Cheap Eats in Nice” list because the prices are extremely reasonable for what you get — but plan to spend at least €30 per person for a full experience.
Beyond Food: LA GARE DU SUD
Location: 35 Av. Malaussena, 06000 Nice, France

This place is more than just a restaurant; it’s all about sharing and celebrating life. Come here with friends, family, or even on your own, and expect a mix of food, culture, and community. They serve delicious Mediterranean-inspired dishes from Italy, France, and southeastern Europe. The menu includes everything from burgers and poke bowls to souvlaki, couscous, mezze, and more. But what really sets this place apart is its lively program that goes beyond traditional dining. It’s a hub for music, art, and sports, hosting events like public viewings of major matches, karaoke nights, and bingo sessions.

The Original „Cheap Eats“ Focà in Nice
Location: 8 Pl. Massena, 06000 Nice, France
Opening hours: Sunday- Thursday from 11am – 9:30pm and Friday – Saturday from 11am – 10:00pm
I can’t recommend this place enough, it’s just too good! I absolutely love a crispy, giant focaccia sandwich packed with fresh ingredients, perfect to enjoy by the beach. Whether it’s to keep me going in the middle of the day or to watch the sunset in the evening. Each focaccia costs just €7.90, and there are plenty of options to choose from: both classic combinations and delicious vegetarian toppings. My favorites, though, are the meal deals: for €10, you get a sandwich and a drink, and for €12, you get a sandwich, a drink, and a dessert. They’re generous with the toppings, so it’ll keep you full until your next meal!
