A austrian classic: Augustiner Bräu Mülln
Location: Lindhofstraße 7, 5020 Salzburg, Austria
Opening hours: Monday – Friday from 3pm -11pm and Saturday – Sunday from 2:30pm – 11pm

Augustiner Bräu Mülln brewery in Salzburg
We’re starting off strong with a household name in Salzburg. The Augustiner Brewery is known across borders and is one of Salzburg’s many landmarks. It is loved by locals as well as tourists. Some people even argue it’s the best beer garden in the world. What’s great about a beer garden is that, as long as you pay for a drink, it’s perfectly acceptable to bring food in from outside. That makes it the perfect place to enjoy “cheap eats” you prepared at home or bought elsewhere and enjoy them in a lively atmosphere. Although they sell great food and snacks as well, those are worth trying. And of course, you have to try their beer since you’re already there.
Gemma in die WEISSE – Let’s go to die WEISSE!
Location: Rupertgasse 10, 5020 Salzburg, Austria
Opening hours: Monday – Saturday from 10am – 12am
We’re continuing with another great beer garden and brewhouse in a traditional and rustic setting. Here, everyone literally comes together: the young and the young-at-heart, locals and hipsters, beer lovers and fans of delicious Austrian delicacies. Whether for a casual meeting or a more festive celebration, this urban gathering place is as essential to today’s Salzburg as Mozart is to its legacy.
Grab a quick lunch from FIFTY 4 BURGERS
Location: Linzer G. 54, 5020 Salzburg, Austria
Opening hours: Every day from 11am – 9:30pm (Friday until 10pm)
Moving on to a more casual spot and a dish that is loved all around the world: the burger. This one here is especially good though! With 100% regional meat and fresh ingredients, the staff will conjure up a wonderful lunch or dinner for you. They also have vegetarian and vegan options available. The meat is juicy and crispy all at once and more than you could ever ask for. They have a great “Classic Menu” for roughly €17 that lets you save a few euros compared to buying it separately.
A calm dinner at Indian Restaurant Taj Mahal
Location: Bayerhamerstraße 13, 5020 Salzburg, Austria
Opening hours: Tuesday – Friday from 11:30am – 1:30pm and 5:30pm – 9:30pm / Saturday from 5:30pm – 9:30pm / Sunday from 5pm – 9:30pm
Who doesn’t love a good, warming-from-the-inside curry? This restaurant brought real Indian cuisine to the heart of Salzburg. The meals are authentic, rich in flavour, and overall just cooked to perfection. Plus, the interior design invites you to stay for several hours and chat with your friends while sharing many delicious and different dishes. And although I’m always tempted to order a simple chickpea curry (merely because it’s just soooo good), Indian cuisine has much more to offer and is so worth trying.
Ultimate Cheap Eats Ramen at ICHI GO ICHI E – Salzburg
Location: Sterneckstraße 33, 5020 Salzburg, Austria
Opening hours: Every day from 11:30am – 3pm and 5pm – 10pm
For a really affordable yet mouthwatering and filling meal, I’d come here. All the best ramen are €10; the same goes for their Donburi. The service is on point and all the staff members are super nice, which creates a really welcoming atmosphere. If you like something on the menu but would prefer to exchange something or substitute it for a vegan version, they are always happy to help.
2 extra Cheap Eats recommendations in Salzburg
Try Bosna at any sausage stand
This spicy Austrian sausage is a classic fast-food dish served in a bread roll with mustard, ketchup, curry powder, parsley, and onions. It’s quite similar to a hotdog, but much heartier. Apparently, Zanko Todorff invented it in 1949 in Salzburg. Locals quickly fell in love with it, and it has been a staple in Austria and southern Germany ever since. So, you have to give it a shot during your trip. There is a great “Balkan Grill” tucked away in a small alley in the Getreidegasse, though any stand around the city is worth trying.
Knödelwochen in February
Indulge in a delicious all-you-can-eat “Knödel” meal during the “Knödelwochen.” Knödel are little balls made from bread or potatoes and served with either a savory or sweet sauce or filling. No matter what time of year you’re in Salzburg (or Austria in general), I highly recommend trying them. They are a comfort food for many children, and I’m sure you’ll love them just as much. However, if you happen to be in Salzburg during February, look out for signs of “Knödelwoche” and find restaurants offering great deals.
