Paris, France, November 5 2023 – We are excited to introduce our Famous Hostels’ ESG Committee! This marks a pivotal step towards achieving practical and sustainable changes.

ESG committee network
What is ESG about?
It’s a dedicated section within an organisation that deals with Environmental, Social and Governance matters.
This committee represents a crucial part of our organisation. It will ensure transparency, ethical practices, diversity and inclusion, assuring employees’ well-being and comprehensive environmental impact among our partners.
How will our ESG work?
In a structured approach, our strategy unfolds in five steps:
- Formation of the Sustainability Committee: The committee will consist of individuals committed to fostering sustainable practices within our association.
- Surveying Current Member Practices: The committee will conduct a comprehensive survey of the current sustainability practices within our association.
- Setting Achievable Priorities: the committee will collaborate to establish attainable priorities. These priorities will provide a roadmap for our efforts, with a focus on practical, realistic and meaningful goals.
- Quarterly Progress Reports and Meetings: To maintain transparency and track our progress, we will conduct quarterly committee meetings.
- Our Goal: We aim to establish an interactive and cooperative platform that enables our members to initiate and advance their sustainability

Behind the ESG
The ESG committee is led by our latest members, including Hyve Hostel in Basel, which is also part of Capsules Services, Celica Hostel in Ljubljana and Zoe Bowthorpe from Hostel Doctor, a consulting company specialised in tourism. Their diverse perspectives and commitment to sustainability exemplify our shared vision of sustainable tourism.
The presentation in Paris was enhanced by an outstanding address from Ms. Carine Bonnejean of Christie & Co., further emphasizing the Committee’s role in preserving business independence.
Our association’s foundation is built upon creating programs to support our members and to set a quality pattern within the industry.
What we already did
Our Eco Wander Campaign represents a shining example of our commitment to environmental, social, and governance (ESG) endeavours.
In partnership with Eurail, we proudly introduced the Carbon Emissions calculator—a game-changer that allowed travellers to harness their eco-conscious choices by opting for trains over planes, transforming these actions into direct discounts at our partnered hostels.
This project is a testament to our deep-rooted dedication to fostering sustainable tourism and empowering travellers to make responsible choices.

What drives us towards change
The ESG committee is a response to the dynamic landscape of hospitality. It embraces customers’ preferences for making more environmentally friendly choices.
Sustainability is no longer optional but a necessity for staying competitive and thriving in our sector. Establishing an ESG Committee is vital for promoting sustainability efforts.
Given the increasing demand for sustainable facilities and practices, as well as the undeniable reality of climate change, staying current is crucial in the ever-evolving world.
To accomplish this, we believe that the ESG committee is necessary to effectively engage with our partners and community. By doing so, we can work towards implementing concrete, feasible, and measurable sustainable practices.
Our ESG needs you!
Do you want to take part in our journey towards more sustainable tourism? We value your ideas, feedback or suggestions! If you are a member, keep integrating sustainable practices within your company with the exclusive support of our newly inaugurated ESG committee.
