Cheap Eats by the slice from Johnny Pizza Bistro Prague
Location: Koubkova 685/16, 120 00 Nové Město, Czechia
Opening hours: Every day from 11am – 12am
We’re starting off strong with a favorite among both locals and tourists and that is for good reason. Their pizza slices are big, mouth-watering, and cheap, making it a dream spot for every backpacker. The value for money is amazing. You can also order an entire 50 cm pizza, and almost all flavors cost less than €15. These pizzas are huge, so you can definitely share one with a friend.
Otherwise, they also serve burgers, pasta, and salads. There are a few seating options available, but I recommend getting your food to go and enjoying it outside. That way, you can even save a bit more money on drinks.
Authentic and traditional dishes at Lokál
Location: several locations; closest one to the Czech Inn Hostel -> Korunní 984/39, 120 00 Vinohrady, Czechia
Opening hours: Monday – Friday from 11am – 11:30pm and Saturday – Sunday from 12pm – 11:30pm
For authentic Czech food, I recommend Lokál. It’s a small chain, so you’ll find several locations all around the city. The prices are reasonable, and the quality is consistently good. Plus, they serve fresh tank beer. It can get a bit loud and lively at times, but that’s just because it’s a popular spot among locals, which I take as a good sign! If you ever have questions, the staff is attentive and always happy to help you choose the right dish.
Cheap Treats from Pragues best bakery: Kus Koláče
Location: Korunní 90, 101 00 Vinohrady, Czechia
Opening hours: Monday – Friday from 8am – 5pm and Saturday from 9am – 2pm
I beg you to come here, it’s just too good to miss. This might be my favorite bakery I’ve ever visited, and I’m not kidding. They specialize in traditional Czech cakes, all made to absolute perfection. As you might guess from the name, they’re best known for koláče: a sweet pastry with a soft, puffy yeast dough base and a generous filling of fruit in the center.
In my opinion, it’s far superior to the non-Czech trdelník, which has become overpriced and low-quality. Koláč is the real, traditional Czech treat. And here, you’ll find yourself in a paradise of freshly handmade koláče with countless options to choose from.
A cheap eats classic: Havelská Koruna
Location: 21 a 23, Havelská 501, Staré Město, 110 00 Praha 1, Czechia
Opening hours: Every day from 10am – 8pm
This milk bar–style restaurant serves local staples such as goulash, fried cheese, and fruit dumplings. If you’ve never heard of milk bars, let me explain briefly: they’re more of a canteen-style restaurant where you order directly at the counter. You take a tray, choose your food, pay, and then find a table to enjoy your meal.
The prices are unbeatable for Prague, especially considering the location. These places were very popular during the Soviet era and have remained a favorite ever since. You’ll still find plenty of locals here grabbing a quick, hearty meal between work or errands.
Our hidden gem: Conductor
Location: Francouzská 152, 101 00 Praha 10-Vršovice, Czechia
Opening hours: Monday – Friday from 11:30am – 8pm
Last but not least a hidden gem that not too many people know about yet. They welcome you with seasonal savory rolls that are absolutely to die for. For example, in autumn you can indulge in a butternut squash roll mixed with ricotta and Parmesan cheese. Just amazing! But don’t forget the sweet options either. You can never go wrong with a classic cinnamon bun.
The menu is quite small, but every dish is made to perfection. They also offer great vegan options, and the prices are incredibly affordable, so you should definitely check it out. Plus, it’s conveniently located right in front of the Czech Inn—perfect for grabbing something before heading into the city or after returning and wanting to relax.
